Description
The Dumbarton Express (DBX) is an all-day, limited stop bus service that takes riders from the East Bay to the Peninsula via the Dumbarton Bridge. With two bus routes, the DB and the DB1, riders can get almost anywhere within Palo Alto. Hop on the bus, pay fare with your Clipper Card and give your car a break! The bus can take you to downtown Palo Alto, the Palo Alto VA Hospital, Stanford Hospital, Stanford University, Stanford Research Park, Caltrain and more locations throughout Palo Alto. The Dumbarton Express consists of two bus lines, the DB and DB1, both originating at Union City BART. It is administered and governed by AC Transit, with oversight by the Dumbarton Bridge Regional Operations Consortium (DBROC), comprised of AC Transit, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, BART, SamTrans, and Union City Transit. Operated and maintained by MV Transportation, the Dumbarton Express is funded by Regional Measure 2.

Routes & Destinations:

  • Line DB: Runs from Union City BART and Ardenwood Park & Ride to Stanford Oval, stopping at Menlo Park, Palo Alto Caltrain, and Stanford Medical Center.

  • Line DB1: Operates from Union City BART to Deer Creek Road, serving Stanford Research Park and Palo Alto VA Hospital.


Schedule Highlights:

  • Service runs Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

  • Morning buses start around 5:25 AM from Union City BART.

  • Evening buses run until about 7:10 PM from Stanford Oval.

  • Peak hours have multiple departures between 6-9 AM and 3-6 PM.


Fares & Payment:

  • Regular fare is $6 per trip.

  • Eligible employees with EasyPass ride free.

  • Clipper Cards are accepted.
